Department of Defense

CompuChem has a long history of providing environmental testing for a variety of sites for the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and for the United States Navy as part of the Naval Energy and Environment Support Activity (NEESA) Program which has evolved into the current Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Validation Program (NFESC).

Under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Environment, Safety and Occupational Health), laboratories seeking to perform testing in support of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) environmental clean-up programs (Army, Navy, or Air Force) now need to be accredited in accordance with DoD ELAP (Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program), effective October 1, 2009. Programs/projects under the DoD ELAP umbrella of DoD operations will include “all government-owned, contractor-operated facilities and formerly used defense sites in support of environmental restoration projects”.

To be eligible as an environmental testing laboratory for the DoD, laboratories must demonstrate conformance to the criteria of the DoD ELAP. A third party accreditation body assesses, confers accreditation, and ensures that an accredited environmental laboratory continuously satisfies the requirements set forth by the DoD ELAP and the DoD QSM (Quality Systems Manual).

CompuChem received its Certificate of Accreditation through Laboratory Accreditation Bureau (L-A-B) on April 23, 2010. To maintain its accreditation, CompuChem is subject to an annual onsite review conducted by L-A-B.
